Tell us a bit about your business

Solomon Taylor & Shaw is an established practice of specialist solicitors.  We are a team of highly motivated, professional and approachable partners and solicitors, each with a specific field of specialisation. We are a relatively small practice – 12 partners – but we think ‘big’ and punch well above our weight. We pride ourselves on being highly commercial and forward thinking, and enjoy working closely with our clients to offer a truly personal high quality service. We are based on Hampstead High Street.

Melissa Vangeen – Solomon Taylor & Shaw Head of the Employment and Immigration at Solomon Taylor & Shaw.  “I have been practising employment and immigration law for 14 years.I work with all sorts of businesses and individuals, on both contentious and non-contentious matters.”

What do you love most about Hampstead?  What makes it different to other areas of London?

Melissa Vangeen loves the buzz of Hampstead.  It doesn’t matter whether it’s a sunny day or a dreary day, there is always a liveliness, with lots going on.  It’s different to other areas of London because although Hampstead is really a village, it’s a thriving hub of activity.

What were your motivations for starting the business?

I did not start Solomon Taylor & Shaw but I did co-found the Hampstead Business Hub in 2012, an informal networking group promoting independent businesses in Hampstead.  We meet in the upstairs function room of Aubaine restaurant in Hampstead on the first Friday of each month from 8 am until 9 am.  More details can be found here: www.hampsteadhub.com and new members are always welcome.

Besides yourselves, what’s your favourite independent Hampstead business?

I couldn’t possibly choose only one.  The wonderfully eclectic mix of businesses in Hampstead makes Hampstead a fantastic place to work.  We have a brilliant business community here.

What could local people be doing more of to help Hampstead traders?

Just keep supporting your local traders and businesses, new and old. Without each other we are nothing.
